ASU explores research, education and solutions related to sustainability with a special focus on urban environments. Researchers initiate and nurture work on issues of sustainability and collaborate with other academic institutions, governments, businesses, industries and community groups around the globe.
For example:
- ASU’s sustainability leadership is defined by its establishment of the Global Institute of Sustainability and the nation’s first ever School of Sustainability that opened in 2006.
- The Arizona Institute for Renewable Energy (AIRE) harbors researchers and laboratories dedicated to making advancements in the areas of photovoltaics, bioenergy, electrochemistry and materials.
- The Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PRSEC), in collaboration with the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at ASU, draws on university capabilities to creatively address the challenges facing electrical power needs around the globe.
