Meet the people who help us understand our world.

Change happens. The world keeps on turning. And Arizona State University continues its evolution from a tiny territorial teacher's college into one of the nation's leading public research institutions. The Arizona Territorial Normal School was born in 1885. The metamorphosis begins in 1958 when the Arizona Legislature officially designates Arizona State Teacher's College at Tempe as Arizona State University. Fast forward to 1985. The Arizona Board of Regents mandates that ASU become a major research institution. By 1994, ASU receives Research I status from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Now one of the largest universities in the United States, ASU's growth and change in the past 50 years dwarfs all that has gone before.
